CALL TO AUDIENCE
MOTION: A motion was made by Member Overton
and seconded by Member Carle to approve the August 16, 2016 minutes as written.
MOTION carried, 7-0.
Kristy Diaz-Trahan, Parks and Recreation Director, spoke about Trail #180 and the issues faced with the homeowners' association. She outlined the planned Big Wash path on Google maps and pointed out the challenges of access and connectivity.
Ms. Diaz-Trahan reported on the group's last meeting. Most of the discussion revolved around the group tasked with asking their peers about the golf course dress code and to gather feedback if a more relaxed dress code would be preferred and what affect it may have on building membership (either positive or negative). The group was also shown a very preliminary possible redesign of the community center and asked to gather feedback from the actual users of the fitness area on what has already been done and what they would like to see in the future. Ms. Diaz-Trahan stated the rebranding project is on hold for now. She would like to take the direction of a more comprehensive rebrand of the entire Parks and Recreation Department. The suggestion of adding some younger members to the group was also brought up during the meeting, but no action was taken.
Ms. Diaz-Trahan stated as that as we roll into budget season, she would like the board to bring forth capital improvement project (CIP) suggestions that they have heard from their peers and contacts out in the community. Approved this budget season are two (2) new fields at Naranja Park and new heater systems at the Oro Valley Aquatic Center. The current heaters were recently repaired, so the capital for new heaters may not need to be spent. Ms. Diaz-Trahan would like to ask for lighting at the new fields. She also explained how the budget process works for CIP projects. Member Guyer suggested more information/communication from the Historic Preservation Committee would be helpful; perhaps a liaison from the commission could attend one of their board meetings.
