Ms. Dellerman-Silverthorn opened the conversation on Historic Neighborhoods. Commissioner Wilson gave a history and background of Oro Valley Estates, Shadow Mountain Estates, Campo Bello and Suffolk Hills and the incorporation of other areas to Oro Valley. He feels targeting specific areas is a priority, but without the manpower it may be difficult. Ms. Dellerman-Silverthorn reminded the Commission that the HPC has a Historic Preservation Certification through the National Park Service which allows the Commission to oversee historic properties. |
Ms. Dellerman-Silverthorn introduced Mr. Sidles. Mr. Sidles reiterated that a Commission is not authorized to form a 501C3 due to the Town Code and open meeting laws. He gave some additional information on how a 501c3 could be formed and by whom. Commissioner Hannestad added his experience with 501C3 and other types of support organizations and their effectiveness to raise funds. Ms. Dellerman-Silverthorn added her comments on the kinds of people or groups that could start a 'friends of Steam Pump Ranch group". Commissioner Hannestad added usually these types of groups work with staff, not Commissions. |
