CALL TO ORDER
  Chair Biel called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m.

CALL TO AUDIENCE
  No one wished to address the commission.
             
COUNCIL LIAISON COMMENTS
  Council Member Solomon was absent.
             
PRESENTATIONS
             
   1. Historical Society Update
  Paul Loomis, Treasurer reported on behalf of Mr. Zipf.  In future, Teri Colmar, Secretary will be the presenter with Mr. Loomis as backup.  Updates included the OVHS video program and interviews, outdoor tours, indoor exhibits at the Pusch house, monthly heritage displays on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon. Upcoming months topics will include Hispanic-American, German-American, Native American heritage and in December, Holiday and the History of Trains in the Southwest. Outdoor tours will begin again in January. OVHS Board members will be meeting with Town staff to update the Memorandum of Understanding and License Agreement for the Tack Room and Heritage Garden.  He urged the Commission to attend OVHS events.

   1. REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF THE JUNE 7, 2021 MEETING MINUTES
             
  Motion by Chair Dan Biel, seconded by Vice Chair Stephanie Krueger to approve the June 7, 2021 meeting minutes.

  Vote: 7 - 0 Carried

   1. DISCUSSION REGARDING THE ORO VALLEY CULTURAL HERITAGE PRESERVATION PLAN ITEM ONE PUBLIC PARTICIPATION AND HERITAGE EDUCATION
  Vice Chair Krueger detailed the attached Item 8-1 handout which included the following:

   2. DISCUSSION REGARDING HISTORIC PRESERVATION INFORMATION ON THE TOWN'S WEBSITE
  Chair Biel opened discussion on the availability of information on the Town's website which included complete essays from last year's writing contest. He asked for a volunteer to do additional research and report what changes or additions could be made to the site.  Commissioner Lee volunteered to research and report at the next meeting.  Vice Chair Krueger asked what can be done with broken links or corrections to the site - they are to be sent to staff as they are found.
             
   3. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE SELECTION OF (3) ESSAY TOPICS FOR THE 21/22 WILLIAM H ADLER HISTORIC EXPOSITORY WRITING CONTEST FOR LOCAL 4TH GRADE STUDENTS
  Vice Chair Krueger offered the three questions for discussion. Questions #1 and #3 were satisfactory to the Commission.  Question #2 "What statues or pieces of art that reflect the history of the region, would you recommend be displayed in public places in Oro Valley as part of the requirement to include Public Art in construction projects? Are there any pieces in Oro Valley that have a connection to history? Please describe where they are and how they reflect history" was noted to be a bit long and focus is to be made on the second half regarding pieces in Oro Valley and their connection to history.
             
  Motion by Vice Chair Stephanie Krueger, seconded by Commissioner Nicole Casaus to approve questions #1 and #3 as written and to strike the first part of question #2 leaving the remainder, with staff having the final authority to wordsmith any question for ease of understanding.

  Vote: 7 - 0 Carried
             
DEPARTMENT UPDATE
  Mr. Jankowski reported that all summer camps were filled to capacity and gave statistics from the STEAM camp.  Fall break camps have been planned and registration is open. The Local Registry project has gained momentum thanks to an article in the Tucson newspaper.  First Friday Concerts run through fall season, and there are many events planned at the Ranch in October. The Garage Project is moving forward, Sellers and Sons was selected. It is anticipated the project will take 7 months to complete. The next HPC meeting is Monday, October 4th and Mr. Jankowski concluded that all future meetings will be held in the HOPI room, unless a public hearing is required, in which case it will move to Council Chambers.
             
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
             
  Motion by Vice Chair Stephanie Krueger, seconded by Commissioner Puntadeleste Bozeman to discuss the possibility of a community outreach program that involves visual art.

  Vote: 7 - 0 Carried
             
  Motion by Commissioner Nicole Casaus, seconded by Vice Chair Stephanie Krueger to propose the idea of creating a historically significant scavenger hunt for youth in Oro Valley.

  Vote: 7 - 0 Carried
             
  Motion by Chair Dan Biel, seconded by Commissioner Nicole Casaus to have commissioner Lee report on the Town's website at the next meeting.

  Vote: 7 - 0 Carried

  Motion by Chair Dan Biel, seconded by Commissioner Puntadeleste Bozeman to adjourn at 5:45 p.m.
