MINUTES ORO VALLEY HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION REGULAR SESSION October 2, 2023 HOPI CONFERENCE ROOM 11000 N. LA CANADA DR.

REGULAR SESSION AT OR AFTER 5:00 PM

CALL TO ORDER

Chair Lee called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

DEPARTMENT REPORT ON CURRENT EVENTS

Mr. Jankowski provided an update of the former ramada at Steam Pump Ranch. Fall Break camps are being offered at the Community Center and Catalina State Park this month. Steam Pump Ranch offers several concerts, movies, second Saturdays, and a family campout for October. The HallOVeen event will be held at James D. Kreigh park on Saturday, October 28th, from 5-8 p.m. This event combines both the Community Center and Steam Pump Ranch events into one in order to receive larger crowds.

COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT ON CURRENT EVENTS

Councilmember Solomon was absent.

CALL TO AUDIENCE

Chair Lee opened Call to Audience.
Devon Sloan, an Oro Valley Resident, supports moving the ADOT Ranch sign to a more visible location.
Tim Tarris, an Oro Valley Resident resident, spoke regarding his background and why history is important to him. He then spoke in support of the historical designation of the Linda Vista Citrus Estates.
Chair Lee closed Call to Audience.

CONSENT AGENDA

Review and approval of the September 11, 2023 Meeting Minutes


				Motion by Chair Auvie Lee, seconded by Commissioner Joan Pliego to approve the September 11, 2023 meeting minutes.

		Vote: 4 - 0 Carried

REGULAR SESSION AGENDA

	1.	DISCUSSION AND SELECTION OF A THIRD TOPIC FOR THE WILLIAM H ADLER HISTORIC EXPOSITORY WRITING CONTEST FOR LOCAL 4TH GRADE STUDENTS


				Motion by Chair Auvie Lee, seconded by Commissioner Ronald Scantlan to approve the third topic as "Please name and highlight a local athlete that has gone on to play college or professional sports. Please tell us what local school they went to, what sports team they went on to play for, as well as any personal achievements or accomplishments they had in their athletic career" for the William H. Adler Historical Writing Contest.

				Vote: 4 - 0 Carried

				Motion by Chair Auvie Lee, seconded by Commissioner Joan Pliego to adjourn at 5:14 p.m.

Vote: 4 - 0 Carried
