CALL TO ORDER AT OR AFTER 6:00 P.M.

Special Chair Atler called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Special Chair Atler led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

CALL TO AUDIENCE - At this time, any member of the public is allowed to address the Board on any issue not listed on today's agenda.  Pursuant to the Arizona Open Meeting Law, individual Board members may ask Town staff to review the matter, ask that the matter be placed on a future agenda, or respond to criticism made by speakers.  However, the Conceptual Design Review Board may not discuss or take legal action on matters raised during "Call to Audience."  In order to speak during "Call to Audience" please specify what you wish to discuss when completing the blue speaker card.

MOTION: A motion was made by Richard Eggerding, Member and seconded by Gil Alexander, Member to Approve the April 10, 2012 study session, April 10, 2012 and May 8, 2012 regular session meeting minutes

Rosevelt Arellano, Planner, presented the following:

Robert Khulman, representing the applicant Sign Magic, and Susan Van Allen, representing the property owner, presented a brief overview of the signs in the shopping center.

Bill Adler, Oro Valley resident, commented on existing sign criteria, reasonable interpretation and consistency for signs.

MOTION: A motion was made by Gil Alexander, Member and seconded by Rachel Childers, Member to Approve OV312-003, Sign Criteria for Commercial Parcel B, Lots 1-9 located at the Canada Hills Shopping Center subject to the conditions of Exhibit "A", including the changes proposed by staff:  The applicant shall identify and submit the specific bronze color for staff review and approval.  All characters and letters contained within a wall sign shall consist of one single color from the approved color palette.

MOTION carried, 7-0.

Sign Criteria for Commercial Parcel B, Lots 1-9
Located within the Canada Hills Shopping Center
OV312-003
1. All existing permitted signs that do not comply to this Sign Criteria shall be permitted to remain as
legal non-conforming signs.
2. Any change or modification to an existing sign shall require conformance to this Sign Criteria.
3. Provision B.3 of the proposed Sign Criteria shall be revised as follows:
All logos must be a registered trademark and shall occupy no more than 40% of the total
allowable wall sign area.
4. Provision C.1 of the proposed Sign Criteria shall be revised as follows:
All wall signs to be reverse pan channel letters with white LED ¡§halo¡¨ illumination. Wall signs
shall not exceed two lines of copy. The height of all characters located on a wall sign shall
meet the following requirements:
ƒÏƒnCharacters and logos on a sign band: 24¡¨ for a single line and up to 16¡¨ for two
lines
ƒÏƒnCharacters and logos on a tower (color of raceway to match building): 24¡¨ for a
single line and up to 18¡¨ for two lines
5. All monument signs shall encompass design elements that are consistent with the architectural
features and materials of the Canada Hills Shopping Center.
