MOTION: A motion was made by Commissioner Trail and seconded by Commissioner Thomae to approve the June 1, 2015 minutes as written.MOTION carried, 7-0
Chair Guyer explained the purpose is to prioritize items in the Oro Valley Cultural Heritage Preservation Plan and create a work plan for next year. There are six implementation sections of this plan. These sections were divided between commissioners to review and provide feedback.
- Vice Chair Lane will review Section 1: Pubic Participation and Heritage Education
- Commissioner Thomae will review Section 2: Historic Steam Pump Ranch
- Commissioner Sunshine will review Section 3: Historic Neighborhoods
- Commissioner Huff will review Section 4: Town History Records and Reports
- Commissioner Trail will review Section 5: Undeveloped Areas of the Town
- Commissioner Strandskov will review Section 6: Honey Bee Archaeological Preserve
Staff and the commissioners discussed ideas for guest speaker topics. They also discussed additional topics to review next year.
Chair Guyer suggested someone on the commission establish parameters to guide creation of these markers.
Commissioner Thomae and Commissioner Sunshine volunteered to lead this project and provide a report to the Historic Preservation Commission at the October meeting.
Commissioner Trail explained this report has been drafted and will be sent to fulfill requirements for a certified local government. Parks and Recreation Director Kristy Diaz-Trahan will report this information to the Town Council.
MOTION: A motion was made by Vice Chair Lane and seconded by Commissioner Sunshine to approve the Town of Oro Valley Historic Preservation Commission Annual Report: 2014-2015.MOTION carried, 7-0
Vice Chair Lane discussed suggestions to improve the contest process, including teachers choosing top essays and limiting it to two topics. Topics will be decided next week.
Commissioner Trail said we have been turned down for another funding source. The commission offered suggestions regarding this item. Ms. Diaz-Trahan recommended revisiting this item to determine if we could partner with the Oro Valley Historical Society's speakers bureau.
Commissioner Thomae said he will see if there is anything new, including checking with Multimodal Planner Nancy Ellis and researching SHPO grants.

Ms. Diaz-Trahan reviewed projects in progress at Steam Pump Ranch. Commissioner Thomae requested a checklist from staff for the next meeting.
Ms. Diaz Trahan reviewed the following:
- Steam Pump Ranch celebration of completion on August 18, 2015
- Review of Open Meetings law presentation
- The Town did not get the Tohono O'odham grant for stables at Steam Pump Ranch
- Steam Pump Ranch Update
- Steam Pump Ranch presentation at the Historic Preservation Conference in June
