CALL TO AUDIENCE - At this time, any member of the public is allowed to address the Commission on any issue not listed on today’s agenda. Pursuant to the Arizona Open Meeting Law, individual Commission Members may ask Town staff to review the matter, ask that the matter be placed on a future agenda, or respond to criticism made by speakers.  However, the Historic Preservation Commission may not discuss or take legal action matters raised during "Call to the Audience." In order to speak during "Call to Audience" please specify what you wish to discuss when completing the blue speaker card.

AGENDA

1.

DISCUSSION ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION AND PLANNING AND ZONING BY BAYER VELLA, PLANNING MANAGER


Mr. Bayer Vella, Town of Oro Valley Planning Manager, described the relationship between the HPC and the Town Planning and Zoning Department as two fold. That consists of first, to assist in the development review process and second to review projects that include all matters of zoning.  He further explained a four step process in which action and information takes place if something significant is to occur. Commissioners asked questions.

UPDATE ON THE ORO VALLEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY (DISCUSSION MUST BE LIMITED TO INFORMATION AND CLARIFICATION)


Mr. Jim Williams, President of the Oro Valley Historical Society offered a brief report about elections, building and collections committees, and the Active Speaker's Bureau.  He further mentioned upcoming calendar events.

UPDATE AND REPORT OF THE ORAL HISTORY PROJECT, HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT LANDMARKS LOCATED IN THE 2.5 SQUARE MILES OF THE ORO VALLEY ESTATES (DISCUSSION MUST BE LIMITED TO INFORMATION AND CLARIFICATION)


Chair Thomae explained the beginning point of the process for the Oral History Project. Ms. Dellerman explained items that may be of interest to the project.

DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON TEMPORARY INFORMATIONAL SIGNAGE FOR HISTORIC BUILDINGS AT STEAM PUMP RANCH


The Commission discussed temporary signage possibilities, wording, and budget.

MOTION: A motion was made by Chair Thomae and seconded by Commissioner Sunshine to allow staff, in collaboration with Pat Spoerl former HPC Commissioner, to create informational signage.

5.

REPORT AND UPDATE BY LYNANNE DELLERMAN ON THE ESSAY CONTEST AND STEAM PUMP RANCH MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS AND CHANGES (DISCUSSION MUST BE LIMITED TO INFORMATION AND CLARIFICATION)


Ms. Dellerman described what has transpired with the essay contest thus far and the number of applicants. Ms. Dellerman described the second part of the Adobe workshop class and provided upcoming dates.  She also explained that repairs will be addressed on those dates.

6.

FAREWELL TO COMMISSIONER ALISON CRANE


Ms. Kristy Diaz-Trahan requested we table the farewell to Commissioner Crane until the May meeting due to her absence.

7.

DEPARTMENT REPORT (DISCUSSION MUST BE LIMITED TO INFORMATION AND CLARIFICATION) 


Ms. Diaz-Trahan reported on the following:
- Vacancies on the Commission
- Reminder for Commissioners to provide two incentives to the Senior Office Specialist
- Registration for HPC Conference is still available as well as volunteering opportunities
- Ms. Dellerman will be sitting in for Ms. Diaz-Trahan at the May 1st meeting


FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS -  (The Historic Preservation Commission may bring forth general topics for future meeting agendas. Discussion must be limited to information and clarification).

-Site description for First and Tangerine Rd project from Planning and Zoning
-"Homework assignment" incentives for landmark designation applicants

NEXT HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING tentatively scheduled for Monday, May 1, 2017 to begin at 5:00 p.m.
