Chair Thomae requested each new Commissioner provide their backgrounds. Commissioner Gail Munden offered her interests and reason for joining the Commission. She is currently the Arts and Cultural Ambassador for Oro Valley and also oversees cultural maintenance of public artwork for the Town. Commissioner Louis Hiett told of his interests as they relate to the HPC. He explained to the Commission that he has been on the "fringes" of historic preservation, namely in Colonial Williamsburg.
Paul Loomis treasurer of the Historical Society introduced the current Vice President, Roxy Johnson. Mr. Loomis informed the Commission about the successful Z Mansion event. He discussed the Society's concerns of the Town's budgeted items in the next several fiscal years.
Chair Thomae suggested the Commission postpone this item until Commissioner Ohslon arrives.
Chair Thomae talked about some of the improvements that have currently been undertaken, such as the new paint, grass, landscape design, window signage, and wall repairs. Ms. Dellerman explained that the department is in process of writing a grant with the Tohono O'odham Nation. She further discussed the window signage and the responses she has received regarding such. She made clear that the benefit of the signage is to provide a story. The landscape and master plan monies have been set aside as described by Ms. Dellerman. She also discussed the wall repairs that were completed at Pusch House, and a second set of repairs is underway after finding additional problems. She finished by disclosing that the chicken coops are now under maintenance.
Three items were discussed.
1. Steam Pump Ranch preservation
2. Inventory and possible registry of structures that we currently have in Oro Valley in conjunction with the 2.5 Oral History Project
3. Review potential commercial property possibilities in Oro Valley as it pertained to HoneyBee Preserve
Ms. Dellerman reported that the intern is currently working on researching homes and their eligibility for the local registry. She stated that summer camp at Steam Pump Ranch is underway, and that HoneyBee Preserve had a drinking fountain and a table installed. She reported that a wedding took place at the Ranch and another is on the calendar. The well site drilling and capping will begin in the next few weeks, then completed in a year.
Chair Thomae reiterated that the Commission had already discussed three focus items in item number 5 that will suffice for future agenda items.
Item 3 has been tabled until the next meeting.
