Parks Recreation Library & Cultural Resources Director Ainsley Legner explained that Honeybee Park is a 60 acre parcel on Rancho Vistoso Boulevard and it will be transferred from Pima County to the Town of Oro Valley effective July 1, 2012.
Discussion followed regarding:
~ Education could be provided on the petroglyphs.
~ A linear park could connect Honey Bee Village Archeological Site to Honey Bee Canyon as well as Steam Pump Ranch.
~ In order to increase participation at the ribbon cutting, it may be better to wait for cooler weather and prepare for the celebration.
~ A good advertising budget is needed.
~ Involve walkers, bicycles and equestrian.
No report.
Ms. Legner stated that the three requirements in order to receive the certificate of occupancy are the restroom, the parking area and the fire hydrant.
These were emailed to the commission. Chair Pullara asked if notes are available to the public. Ms. Legner stated that she would look into it.
The commissioners agreed that it was a successful event and there was a very positive response from the public. The commissioners discussed the following:
~ Letters of appreciation should be mailed out to those who worked on the event.
~ The nearby businesses also benefited from the event.
~ Partnering with the craft fair next year may increase traffic.
~ The total cost was $2,000 which does not include the work they did on site.
~ The vendors may pay to participate in the future.
The commissioners discussed ways to improve the event:
~ Start the planning process six weeks earlier.
~ Plan for crowds and tours.
~ Tighten up the logistics.
~ A ticketing plan for the tour.
~ Constant music.
~ People in period dress interacting with people in line.
~ Better signage on the street.
~ Shade structures.
Ms. Legner reported that four applications have been received. Two applicants have been interviewed and one is not eligible. There is one additional applicant to be interviewed.
Information will be sent to the commission as the conference approaches.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.
~ Signage for Steam Pump Ranch
~ Possibility of an April or May Fundraiser
~ Work Plan
~ Desert Archeology has changed their name to Archeology Southwest.
