Parks Recreation Library & Cultural Resources Director Ainsley Legner stated that this item will go to the Town Council on March 7, 2012 for possible approval of funding utilizing recreation in-lieu fees. If approved, next month staff will bring forward a recommendation to this commission regarding the look of the structure.
Discussion followed regarding:
~ The pre fabricated structure may be inadequate and not authentic.
~ Both facilities will be needed.
~ Having the restroom connected to the linear park allows for funding.
~ A restroom would make it possible to allow the public at the site.
Ms. Legner explained that the Oro Valley Water Utility will pay for and install the fire hydrant in May or June 2012.
Commissioner Nagy reported that the garden committee met on February 28, 2012 and discussed several needs. Staff is looking into costs of installing a perimeter fence and enlarging the garden so it will be more stable.
Ms. Legner explained that staff hopes to accomplish this project by this spring or summer but they will need help from this commission. Commissioner Nagy volunteered to chair a committee to review this issue. She stated that there are health and safety issues which need to be addressed prior to searching the bunk houses for documents and photographs.
Ms. Legner reported that Development Infrastructure Services staff has spoken to the Arizona Department of Transportation regarding installing a sign at the site.
Chair Pullara explained how this document was derived.
The commission discussed the following:
~ There should be more detail in the action plans.
~ The current archive methods are not user friendly and should be addressed.
~ The document needs to be prioritized.
~ Mandated items should be included in the work plan based on future need.
~ The responsible party piece should be expanded.
~ Internal bullet points should be included.
~ The design may need to change.
~ Sections could be divided up between commissioners.
Vice Chair Guyer and Commissioner Hannon and volunteered to be on a committee with staff to review the work plan.
Ms. Legner stated that the Development & Infrastructure Services Department will provide input by March 16, 2012.
Ms. Legner reported that the State Historic Preservation Office is willing to assist as this project moves forward.
Two candidates will be brought forward to the Town Council for acceptance on March 7, 2012.
Early registration ends March 20, 2012. Staff requested that the commissioners let them know if they would like to attend.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 2, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.
Chair Pullara met with Chris Evans and Brooks Jeffrey from the Modern Architecture Project and they are interested in providing training for the commission including an architecture tour and cultural resources planning training.
Commissioner Nagy suggested that the training include a specific older platinum LEED home in Oro Valley.
There were no announcements.
MOTION: A motion was made by Commissioner Hannon and seconded by Vice Chair Guyer to adjourn the meeting at 6:00 p.m.
