CALL TO ORDER AT OR AFTER 5:00 P.M.

Chair Pullara called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

CALL TO THE AUDIENCE - At this time, any member of the public is allowed to address the Commission on any issue not listed on today?s agenda. Pursuant to the Arizona Open Meeting Law, individual Commission members may ask Town staff to review the matter, ask that the matter be placed on a future agenda, or respond to criticism made by speakers. However, the Historic Preservation Commission may not discuss or take legal action on matters raised during "Call to the Audience." In order to speak during "Call to Audience" please specify what you wish to discuss when completing the blue speaker card.

Oro Valley Resident Bill Adler explained that the Planning Division is updating the General Plan and Section 10.2 of the plan refers to archeological and cultural resources. He advised the commission to be involved in the process.

MOTION: A motion was made by Commissioner Hannon and seconded by Vice Chair Guyer to approve the March 5, 2012 minutes as written.

INTRODUCTION OF NEW HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEMBERS - DISCUSSION


Susannah Myerson and Marilyn Lane were introduced as new members and they discussed their backgrounds.

The commission reviewed the documents and discussed the exterior treatment options. They decided that they prefer a color that blends in and that they do not want a wood pattern. The commission came to the consensus that the slump block or the split face are their two preferences.

MOTION: A motion was made by Commissioner Nagy and seconded by Commissioner Myerson to select the 1/2" deep 4" x 6" Slump Block.
 
MOTION carried, 7-0
 
The commission agreed that the color should be similar to the Lieber house such as a tan color but not gray.

Recreation Manager Lynanne Dellerman thanked the commissioners for their hard work arranging the centennial celebration at Steam Pump Ranch.

4.

UPDATE ON THE TOWN’S DRAFT CULTURAL RESOURCES INVENTORY PHASE II: PRESERVATION PLAN - DISCUSSION


Ms. Legner reported that the Development & Infrastructure Services department reviewed this document and provided preliminary comments relating to updating information and compling with the private property rights protection act. More detailed comments will be ready in a couple of weeks. 

This document needs to be in line with the General Plan and include implementation of property on the National Register of Historic Places.

Commissioner Hannon, Chair Pullara and Commissioner Myerson volunteered to work on a subcommittee to update this document once the Development and Infrastructure Services Department reviews the commission’s original comments and provides feedback.

REPORT ON FUND RAISING OPPORTUNITIES MEETING WITH THE ORO VALLEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY - DISCUSSION


Ms. Legner reported that the Oro Valley Historical Society subcommittee and the Historic Preservation Commission Chair and Vice Chair met in a working session to discuss fundraising. The Oro Valley Historical Society will be discussing it at their meeting at the end of April.

6.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION BINDER - DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION


Ms. Legner reviewed the contents of the binders. Chair Pullara requested that the commissioners bring their binders with them to these meetings.

SCHEDULING NEXT HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING DATE - DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION


The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 7, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.
