Tucson Region Coordinator for the Site Steward Program Robin Rutherford provided an update on Honeybee Village. Discussion followed regarding:
~ It is being surrounded by new development.
~ Pima County has put up new signage.
~ There will be an additional 6-7 new stewards for the site.
~ There were tire tracks at the site which may indicate ATV activity.
~ Concerns include:
- Gap in the wall which may allow ATV entry.
- Lack of signage about off-leash dogs.
- Trees in boxes on the site.
Chair Pullara pointed out that there may be a misunderstanding about the use of the property by the new neighboring subdivision.
Ms. Legner requested discussion regarding how the group envisions using the 1870s ranch house. Discussion followed regarding:
~ Period items should be in the house.
~ Bedroom furniture from the Pusch House downtown could be used.
~ The Master Plan specifies the house for "display areas".
~ Items to be used from the local museum.
Chair Pullara indicated that it is the consensus that everyone is interested in exploring this. The group will need to see what is available.
Commissioner Nagy added that furniture would require the tours to be revamped because of space issues.
Vice Chair Guyer will work on this Work Plan Item 5 in coordination with Commissioner Lane.
Chair Pullara offered to work as a volunteer with anyone the new Chair appoints to write this document.
Chair Pullara and Commissioner Strandskov provided a presentation for the group and they were then presented with a $650 check. Ms. Dellerman stated that there will be a presentation by the National Society Daughters of Colonial Wars at the January 16, 2013 Town Council meeting.
Ms. Legner is meeting with Roxy Johnson from the Daughters of American Revolution and the Town's grantwriter this week about grant opportunities.
Ms. Legner met with the Town's Safety Risk Manager and he suggested if the Town had resources, it would be best to have someone hired to do the work due to the danger from the packrats. She explained his preferred process.
Commissioner Nagy suggested removing items a little at a time and sorting and cleaning on the Proctor Lieber house porch. Items need to be photographed and cataloged.
Ms. Dellerman reported that the tours will be on the second Saturdays of each month from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. These will be advertised and there may be guest speakers. Ms. Legner added that past tours had low attendance. Individual group tours have been successful.
Ms. Legner reported that a second application for consideration of an entry treatment for the gated area has been sent to the Arizona Department of Transportation and it is under review.
No report.
The next meeting is scheduled for January 7, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.
The February 4, 2013 meeting date may be adjusted since it will be the new Parks & Recreation Director's first day. Ms. Dellerman will be the staff liaison for that meeting.
