CALL TO ORDER
  Chair Lee called the meeting to order at 5:01 p.m.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY REPORT ON CURRENT EVENTS
  Ms. Sloan congratulated the Town on receiving two recent Arizona Parks and Recreation Conference awards. She gave each present the latest Historical Society newsletter and passed around postcards for sale created by Arizona's third-graders. She encouraged those present to support the Society by purchasing raffle tickets to win a Jim Click 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe Plug-in Hybrid, displayed at Steam Pump Ranch.  100% of the proceeds go to the Society. She reported on the latest exhibit and that there are three new permanent editions for the museum, a framed 100-year-old silk scarf owned by Gertrude Pusch and two paintings by local artists.
             
DEPARTMENT REPORT ON CURRENT EVENTS
 

Mr. Jankowski reported the following:

  • Summer began with a ribbon cutting and reopening of Naranja Park on May 18th adding a skate park/pump track, splash pad, and fields
  • 12 different summer camp programs were offered and operated at capacity this summer
  • The Department received a $30,000 Historic Preservation Grant from Arizona State Parks to contract for a condition assessment report on the Proctor-Lieber House. The Town will add $20,000.
  • The Department received two awards at the 2024 Arizona Parks and Recreation Conference.
    • Mayor Winfield received the 2024 Public Offical of the Year for his exceptional dedication to parks and recreation and unwavering commitment to conservation
    • The Recreation and Culture Division took home an award for Outstanding Educational Program for our Nature camp.

Staff's focus now shifts to fall programming and events as outdoor amenities begin to increase with more enjoyable weather. Watch for the return of our concert series and Halloween-themed events.

  Motion by Chair Auvie Lee, Commissioner Richard Nielsen to approve the May 6, 2024, Meeting Minutes.

REGULAR SESSION AGENDA
             
   1. PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION ABOUT THE COMMUNITY'S EFFORT TO CREATE THE NEXT 10-YEAR ACTION PLAN, KNOWN AS OV'S PATH FORWARD. 
  Rene Olvera, Senior Planner, presented the attached information. There were no questions from the Commission.
             
   2. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION TO APPROVE THE 2022 AND 2023 HISTORIC PRESERVATION ANNUAL REPORTS AS REQUIRED BY OVTC § 6-10-5(F)(16)
  Chair Lee introduced the topic and explained the process.
             
  Motion by Chair Auvie Lee, Vice Chair Michael Paul to approve the 2022 and 2023 Annual Reports of the Historic Preservation Commission and instruct staff to proceed with submitting reports as appropriate.

   3. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION TO DETERMINE THE FUTURE OF THE WILLIAM H ADLER HISTORIC EXPOSITORY WRITING CONTEST FOR LOCAL 4TH GRADE STUDENTS
  Chair Lee opened the discussion by explaining the contest's history. Despite this year's revival and work to ensure the contest went district-wide, there were no submittals. Vice Chair Paul added engagement and incentivization ideas, restructuring the prizes and changing the contest's season were also discussed.
             
  Motion by Chair Auvie Lee, Commissioner Richard Nielsen to continue the William H Adler Historic Expository Writing Contest for local fourth-grade students.

  Vote: 3 - 0 Carried

   4. DISCUSSION REGARDING THE ANNUAL CULTURAL HERITAGE PRESERVATION PLAN
  Chair Lee introduced the item by explaining a brief history of the process and what has taken place over the last year. Staff added photos, removed appendices, and replaced them with a resources page with appropriate links to additional documents, including those previously found in the appendices. Now that grammatical and content changes, along with photos, were added to the plan, the item will be added to a future agenda.
             
   5. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION TO CANCEL THE OCTOBER 7 MEETING
             
  Motion by Chair Auvie Lee, Commissioner Richard Nielsen to cancel the October 7, 2024, meeting.

  Vote: 3 - 0 Carried
